    Kenya National Archives, Nairobi

We live in a world where everyone is more aware of their history, a generation that knows that history can’t just be from the victors point of view. We want to know more, because we don’t just take what we are told, we poke holes and look at it from a new perspective then, we make a decision on whether to believe something as the gospel truth. This may apply to some of us. Others are okay with the textbook explanation. The one that says this person is superior to the next. Or if you have to fight for something then you are changing the status quo; and it’s not…

    When she met him.

She hugged her feet closer feeling her bum go numb from all the sitting. He was talking about something, something she was supposed to be listening to. It could have been him bragging about how good he was, even though she knew she had felt nothing. Or it could have been his big ideas, which she greatly supported though she never heard him include her in his future. She definitely wasn’t listening. She didn’t even know why she was still here. But he spoke anyway. A misery she had to bear just as she did in bed. One he would never notice until he met his next muse who…

    Climate Change

Our generation will have to decide on how to deal with the issue of climate change despite some people believing that it is a hoax. I believe it is a reality that needs to be dealt with yesterday. A few issues I find appalling for instance are the intensity of the cyclones we are experiencing today. Cyclone Idai in Mozambique killed about 1000 people. Not to say the cyclone was caused by climate change but rather its intensity I believe was contributed upon by the changes we are experiencing today. Moreover, there have been record highs in this year’s winter in the United States where there were lows of -70…

    Denial

She sat there in nothing more than what she brought into this world. She didn’t want to cry but the tears stung. She wanted to stay but she knew she couldn’t.In as much as her heart refused to believe, her brain always knew she was never welcome. Where would she go from here? Who did she have? Who would she call her own now that everything was falling apart? The evening sun was beaming through the window and all she let it burn her skin. She let it blind her eyes and hoped it took them with it because she didn’t need to see any more of this world. She…

    Captain Marvel

It'll inspire you to remember you are enough even with your flaws. It'll show you the power of great friendships. It'll teach you just how much you need to not let things get into your head and best of all, it'll remind you that you have nothing to prove.

    Play Kenyan Music.

Since the hashtag Play Kenyan Music, I’ve seen more people getting ‘woke’ about songs by Kenyan artists. It’s pretty amazing that we are supporting our own and holding radio stations accountable in playing music made for Kenya on Kenyan airwaves. Having grown up listening to Prezzo, Pili-Pili, Nameless, Esir,Necessary Noise, Longombas and Kleptomaniax I would argue Kenyan music is unique and continually evolving. I’d however say we are pretty far from where we can get with it. Especially seeing the growth of the industry in West Africa. Though we have amazing talent, we see artists starting with immense potential and veering of at some point. We also are to blame…

    Café Javas

Nairobi Java House is bae. The boyfriend you’ve been with who has shown you love and affection and massages your feet after a long day. But Café Javas? It is the colleague at work your friends warn you about. He doesn’t hold back on reminding you you’re beautiful and smiling when you meet on the elevator. He knows you are just friends. However, he has the lean body, fancy accent and is a bit too well spoken, deep coffee brown eyes that make your ovaries smile and arms that can lift you effortlessly like the queen that you are. It is a fatal attraction. The kind that you know you…

    Chronicles of Mafia III

The finale… As a reader by now you are probably thinking that it can’t get more interesting than that, can it? Stop wasting your time, cause that’s where you go wrong. But I digress, let’s get back to the situation at hand. This lad had hitched a lovely lady somewhere and had managed to keep it a secret for so long. You probably know that the first stage of grief was just about to kick in. For those of you who believe that Kieran cannot be hysteric in any way, you are not mistaken. This gentleman just kept on mesmerising me, at how especially he was taking the passing of…

    Who are you?

Who are you? Are you the body they so often desire? Or that beauty they admire? Are you the intellect they can’t measure up to? Or the witty mouth they try to? What truly describes you? What about you is pure and true? Is it who you say and think you are? Or who people see you as? I don’t think there is an exhaustive definition But definitely different versions Do we really need one though? If yes what for? If no why not? You are defined by what you were Barely what you are And implicitly by what you can be Do not seek definitions But aspire to be…

    Chronicles of Mafia II

Still haven’t read part 1? Click here before you continue…. “I really thought that it would work, that putting myself out there would be the best thing to do, and that Kimberly would forgive me and give me another chance.” Kieran darted a look at me, and returned his gaze on the highway, he was seemingly irked by my confession and he scoffed at me. He proceeded to clear his throat, just like he had done in the coffee shop six months ago before I had my epiphany. I could feel the lecture pitter-patter on his lips, ready to be unleashed. “You don’t have issues Joe, sometimes it works, sometimes…
