    East Meets West KE

I was in a jav last week and as the tout reached out for my fare his arm read, ‘I have nothing to loose’. Well heck, you really have nothing to lose if the term isn’t spelled right for one. He may never really know it’s spelled all wrong, I’m sure neither did the tattoo guy. It’s just a cool tattoo that probably gets him the girls, plus his messy locks. Locks seem to have a beard effect these days. Then I met Bobby. I’d go on to describe him but it wasn’t a one on one interview, more of a teleconference, only using whatsapp audios. He’s nothing like the…

    Worth The Wait KE

Let’s talk about sex today. Something we freely talk about in our usual conversations, a normal thing actually. Gone are the days we would shy away from sex talk today we know everything. Almost everything maybe. Just enough. After talking to Dr. Jarunda this week (remember him? No? here he is) He sent me a link from Odd Africa that highlighted sex practices in Africa. Apparently some communities were taught how to please their husbands in bed; others virginity was seen as a curse needing cleansing others regarded women’s pleasure more than men. (Link in the description box down below *insert appropriate YouTube voice*) Sex really isn’t a foreign concept even…

Trying to tell a joke for me is like playing golf on a humid day with no glasses. I can’t even play golf. It’s a bit sad especially when we live in an age where memes are generated every few seconds. Feels like an incapacity. Today I get to feature someone who doesn’t really struggle with jokes. A social introvert and most importantly the one of the few people who thought my few tries were funny. Maybe the only person and for that he gets an extra paragraph for choosing to laugh at my joke. A couple of months ago when NEMA decided no plastics, memes rattled the media at an…

    Wairimu The Poet

Java Thika Road Mall is ecstatic on Saturday mornings; from couples on dates to directors of newly established businesses meeting for coffee to register companies, elite ladies having ginger tea after a morning run and looking through emails (but really looking through Nairobi bachelor’s profiles) and a bustling mall all over. I however am late, running inside like a mad woman only to do a clean sweep of the sitting spaces and not spot my client, so I dial her number. Wairimu is gracious, when I finally find her at Text Book Centre getting material for her portraits, I can’t help but wonder when she got this glow up. I wanted…

    Dan Isaaka Photography

It is funny how you can know someone for four consecutive years of high school walk from the dinning hall holding hands and saying how you’ll be roomies at campus and get married on the same day to twin brothers. The truth is however, this fantasy doesn’t work. For me at least. All my so-called best friends at the time have moved on with life and now we don’t meet for book reviews and drink green tea over gossip. It’s just hi’s and byes on the streets of Nairobi. Isaaka however is one of those people who have sort of remained in the loop for the past two years or…

    UCHi Kenya

The thing with starting a new project for any artist (read writer) is the numerous questions of whether it’ll kick off or not. The Kenyans series started off pretty easy with familiar content for you my readers in the first two posts. However, the whole idea of a Kenyans series is to feature Kenyans right? So here I am today taking a leap of faith after an interview with an amazing group of ladies, UCHi Kenya. The last time I interviewed someone was about 5 years ago for a journalism club magazine for school. Now real life is here! With all the hope of establishing this blog as a brand.…
