    Lake Elementaita, Nakuru County

Over the past weekend we had a chance to make a small getaway to Nakuru County and enjoy the magnificent views of Lake Elementaita alongside great vibes, learning how to play soft archery, a steam bath a little too much swimming. We spent the weekend at Sirville Lake Elementaita Lodge. The spot was recommended by a member of our team and let’s just say it was a bittersweet experience. Rates We got the full board package that is Ksh. 13,500 for twin rooms that serve two. A private room for full board goes for Ksh. 10,000. Booking was done by directly calling the lodge. No booking.com or agents were involved.…

    Diani, Kwale County

Traveling to Diani has always been of consequence and never intentional enough. This year I got to take a three-day trip as a break from a crazy schedule. Diani has a lot to offer here’s a few items to add to your bucket list 1. Beach walks2. Congo River3. Ali Barbour’s Cave Restaurant4. Wasini Island5. Dolphin watching6. Snorkeling7. Glass boat ride Since the pandemic is still with us, traveling isn’t what it was with declines of up to 90% in tourism at the coast, the only upside is better negotiating power and less crowding at the coast. Slowly by slowly though people are getting the confidence to travel again and…

    Hiking, Ngong Hills

One of the most magical things about Nairobi is that its madness and chaos on one end and a slice of heaven on the other. In this city, you could be stuck in traffic for hours or you could be in a serene environment in the hills enjoying God’s creation. You don’t need to go for an out of town trip that will cost you a month’s rent to enjoy this . You just need to call your friends and go hiking at Ngong hills just 25 km away for a little as Ksh. 1000 to Ksh. 1500 per person while sticking to a strict budget. Before we begin, the figure…

    Ndere Island, Kisumu

Nairobi life can be an unending cycle. You spend an average of two hours in traffic every working day, the new boss isn’t your favorite person, the couple living above you have bought a new amphitheater and you have no idea what sleep is anymore. The day may have highs of 27 degrees but you don’t remember the last time you saw the sun. You may eat at fancy restaurants for business meetings but have no idea what the food tasted like, because the rat race is catching up and we’re all trying to make it. Before you get into this unending cycle, add Ndere Island on your bucket list.…

    Giraffe Centre, Nairobi

You probably remember Giraffe Centre from your old school trips if you studied at any school in Kenya. It was some kind of pre-primary/ middle school domestic tourist destination. And we were hella excited to go there! You may not remember much about it from then so let’s take a small tour and see if you miss it. The spot is one for nature lovers. It’s a place you just go and hang out, enjoy the view, learn about giraffe’s and feed them. It’s very chill and in case you’re going there with company make sure it’s the kind of place they would hang out. Giraffe Centre is located in…

    Watamu, Kilifi County

It’s always been a dream of mine to explore all corners of Kenya and Watamu was one of the many I hadn’t visited. It’s fantastic, especially in the low season. No crowds, peaceful beach walks and just about the best bargains you could get. Watamu is located 108km from Mombasa and about 30 minutes from Malindi. It is named after the people of watamu and means ‘sweet people’. There’s quite a number of places to visit when you’re here to live up the Watamu experience. Gedi Ruins The ruins date back to the 12th century rich in the culture and history of the Swahili people who came to be from…

7 places, spend only 500 bob in Nairobi

In Nairobi there are days you leave the house and automatically Ksh. 5,000 leaves your account. It’s disdaining considering how much work you put in to make the money.  As a lover of all things food and exploration I try to keep an extra 500 bob for random plots, anything beyond that we need to plan for it. Here’s my top seven picks of places to visit and spend 500 bob or less per person. 1.Sno-Cream I am one of the few people who had not tried Sno-Cream until last month and I’m wondering where I’ve been all this time. Sno-Cream is opposite University of Nairobi Main Campus and you…

    Kenya National Archives, Nairobi

We live in a world where everyone is more aware of their history, a generation that knows that history can’t just be from the victors point of view. We want to know more, because we don’t just take what we are told, we poke holes and look at it from a new perspective then, we make a decision on whether to believe something as the gospel truth. This may apply to some of us. Others are okay with the textbook explanation. The one that says this person is superior to the next. Or if you have to fight for something then you are changing the status quo; and it’s not…

    A train tale.

When you talk to Kenyans who’ve traveled or lived abroad, they tell you meeting a fellow Kenyan feels like a bit of home away from home. A lady we met on the train explained just how warm Kenyans are. She talked about how once you meet someone you can relate with its a whole new world of exploration. Now, if you have used the train you know how much you pray to get good people who sit next to you and if you are with a friend, she doesn’t end up on sit 5 when you’re on 4 because they are miles apart. (I think they should let you book…
