Mukami Kimathi Mau Mau Freedom Fighter by Wairimu Nderitu

Being the wife of a Freedom Fighter may look like a walk in the park where your husband’s name seemingly opens all doors for you and make things right. This book however shows how in about 65 years our freedom fighters are still not well documented historically. It corrects the belief that women stayed home as men went to the forest to fight. Women also fought, Mukami having been one of them and her fight was not just in the war but in keeping her husband’s name alive. Don’t get me wrong, I can already feel you rolling your eyes thinking this is another feminist manifesto that you don’t approve.…

    Play Kenyan Music.

Since the hashtag Play Kenyan Music, I’ve seen more people getting ‘woke’ about songs by Kenyan artists. It’s pretty amazing that we are supporting our own and holding radio stations accountable in playing music made for Kenya on Kenyan airwaves. Having grown up listening to Prezzo, Pili-Pili, Nameless, Esir,Necessary Noise, Longombas and Kleptomaniax I would argue Kenyan music is unique and continually evolving. I’d however say we are pretty far from where we can get with it. Especially seeing the growth of the industry in West Africa. Though we have amazing talent, we see artists starting with immense potential and veering of at some point. We also are to blame…

Book Duka – The African Bookstore

I like books. I like some more than others. I like the feeling you get when you’re excited to turn the page but still have to finish reading the current one. I like reading and being smart.   2019 was supposed to be a chilled year for me where I don’t get a demanding job for the first few months. Where I just take a break and breath. I’m terrible at taking breaks. I’m just as bad at procrastinating as I am at taking breaks. When I wrote the Scramble and Partition for Africa article I needed to do a lot of fact checking. Part of me feels like even…

How to use Goodreads and a review of Eat, Pray, Love.

Happy New Year! We’re five days in. It’s the time of the year when our resolutions are still on track, we haven’t eaten fries yet, we don’t have a craving for a cold soda and we feel refreshed going for a morning run. I’m here to help you achieve the next resolution on your list. You’ve probably seen your friends boost about how they only read 21 out of 54 books and they feel distraught at how ‘lazy’ they were at reading. You’ve already signed up to Goodreads but have no idea how it works; but this year you’ve decided you will know how it works. Coming this far into…

    Worth a thought

I may have jinxed last week’s post when I mentioned Jarunda or it’s just those things the universe plans out. Today’s intro is very brief. If you haven’t read last post where we talked about sex and abstinence after featuring Worth The Wait KE, click here This post won’t make sense if you haven’t had a look. Being a response post as heavily voted for on my Instagram, I will not give my position as I may or may not agree with the post but I believe in people being able to air their opinion. Without further ado here’s Jarunda once more… So, let’s do this topic again, only this time, your…

It really isn’t hard, just the ABC’s of life. Enjoy! Don’t miss the sidebar down below. Dear Glynis, So I have been dating for a while now and everyone stills asks the question how do you make it work. Love is a beautiful thing I am a hopeless romantic. BUT love doesn’t take you all the way you may love a person but it does need work the same way you buy a car and you need to take…

    Reader’s digest

This week we have a digest from our very own! I’m so excited! For the first time we have a male perspective on a couple of the posts from before. Of course it’s not just any guy. Abeg no. It is one very simple man loved by very many. Rumor has it he is one of JKUAT’s most eligible bachelor’s therefore really needs no introduction. And have you seen him on twirrer, even politicians fear him. He used to write a few years back, but since this age (read fame) of his is catching up he has decided to be an observer these days. May all his previous 400 plus…

    BAD MOMS

Hold up, for just a second, I had made up my mind that Suicide Squad was winning my movie of the year title until I watched it So what is Bad Moms? It’s a 2016 movie about all the mistakes that moms make. That’s it. I don’t think i’m like those bloggers who go to the extent of saying the director and all the shenanigans about the technicalities of when it was produced, that’s their thing, and I can barely remember the entire cast name except Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, besides that’s why we have E! to give us the behind the scenes. Why is bad moms so awesome…
